Chapter 2
A verb represents an action or state i.e. sleep, eat, read, cook etc. In Croatian most verbs will have a ti ending. The sentence Ana is sleeping is in the present tense and in the 3rd person.
To get the pres-3 form of a verb you can usually drop the ti i.e:
Example 1.
čitati - readAna čita - Ana is reading.
Example 2.
kuhati - cookMarko kuha - Marko is cooking
So čita is really two English words (is reading, is cooking).
You'll notice in those examples that they ended in the letter a. There are some words where you need to change the last vowel in the present tense from a to i. For example:
trčati - run - is actually trči.
Ana trči. - Ana is running
This might make sense later.
